After browsing through these forums, I take it that my ATI 9800 Pro and latest drivers are the reason for SL crashing back to XP, four or five times a day? When I diagnose, I get "OpenGL coding beyond parameters" error messages. Naturally, ATI states that the latest Catalyst drivers are properly optimized for OpenGL and it's SL's problem, and on this website, Linden Labs states that it's ATI's problem. No help there or there.

I don't want to start an ATI versus NVidia debate. I'm just wondering if anyone has a work-around yet that goes beyond switching off antivirus programs, etc.

Appreciate any input. -Zero- stability problems with all programs including all OpenGL programs (and I run a lot) until I found SL.

To put things basically.
If you have an ATI based card you will have issues with SL
unless your very lucky.

Thanks. I take it you mean that you don't know of any work-arounds.

My apologies if this subject has been hashed out so many times that people are bored of it. Very surprising to some of us who are new.

Interesting.....

I started the game last May with an ATI, but changed to GE Force FX 5600-256 a while ago.

I saw an AV on my property in Taber the other day with the name tag ATI Tester. So I guess someone is addressing this problem.

Solutions that may help you:

Turn off AGP Graphics Acceleration (Edit -> Preferences -> Options -> AGP Graphics Acceleration *click*). This solved my constant crashing on a daily basis, hopefully it'll help you some.

If that doesn't work I'd say turning down your settings as much as possible. And maybe clearing out your SL cache daily might help.

Let me know if turning AGP off helps any. :)

Thanks, Oz -- disabling the AGP didn't help -- but clearing out the cache does. Hmmm. . . .
