I have an account with my regular avatar and an alt. I have tried to check the difference with SL on my stationary pc and my laptop.
The troubles is with my regular avatar. When on my stationary pc it is a lot of lag. Everywhere.
I just bought an open sim, and there is not much I've put out there yet, and it is still lagging. With my alt there is no lagging at the same area.
So i'm just wondering what the issue with my accont can be? Someone who can help me find out what to do?
I've put out the lag meter. When using my alt there are very little lag overall, with my regular av it is often yellow or red in the client area. I have a graphics card which is good enough to run at high on preferences, but I've slided down to mid anyway. The draw distance is at 196 meters.
Is there other tweaks to do? Wich is due to the avatar?

Advanced / Rendering / Info Displays / Avatar Rendering Cost.
Edit / Detach Object one at a time, watching the ARC number.
(ARC is far from precise, but with an effect as large as described, something will probably stand out. Usually hair, or high-prim/flexi/sculpty/alpha stuff.)
[ETA: By the way, if the problem really is ARC, it's not just your own client that's lagged as a result: it's everybody who looks at your avatar. If that's what's going on, your friends will be very grateful for a new, slimmed-down look, too.]

Thank you very much for your reply I tried to remove the hair, and the ARC lowered from around 5000 or something, to 1100... so I just have to sacrifice realistic look for no lag, I think The draw distance also has something to say... Is there anything else I can do to tweak the system? I try to read the Knowledge Base, but I don't always understand what to do. And I'm afraid to do something wrong on my own...

Well, sure, one can adjust all the stuff under Edit / Preferences / Graphics. Personally, I generally run a draw distance of about half the one cited--which means I'm downloading and rendering about 1/4 the amount of stuff. (I do it more to conserve bandwidth than to speed rendering, but I'm on a crappy cable network these days.)
On a less-capable laptop, I usually run a very dumbed-down set of graphics preferences, and only crank them up when I'm taking snapshots or really evaluating a build. I generally leave Basic Shaders on, and turn off Atmospheric Shaders and Water Reflections... and sometimes reduce Avatar and Terrain detail. The "Hardware Settings" options are the only ones about which one should be a little careful, trying things kind of one at a time to make sure one knows how to revert to a working configuration.

The sad part about the hair is that it is so realistic... I've never had that nice hair... sad, but true But I don't know if it's really the ARC that does the lagging... Because even if I used hair with low ARC I lagged (the performance improved a lot, but sometimes it was still lagging) I've read more posts here now that others have problems with the new viewer, so maybe it is the viewer too. Hope it helps getting fixes to the viewer soon. Maybe I should try the RC-versions?

I swear by the RC viewers (they will crash more especially the first couple) but I find them to be much more stable.
Some places (any crowded club) will be laggy no matter what. If your getting it in crowded areas something to do is turn off animated textures if they have changing dance floors lights etc. as well as particle count..
check the settings too! the settings can be different on each log in try to match the alt and mains settings..
how about script lag? does the main have scripted attachments that could be causing it?
