double chat, rezes, purchases, everything...

I have talked to SL support and with their advice opened a ticket but so far have come up empty to get this resolved. I am reaching out to the user community hoping someone has experienced and been able to fix it.

Everything that is typed in or broadcast to a chat window happens twice. If I type "hello" in local chat then "hello" appears on to separate lines. If I buy something I pay for it twice. If I rez something and it has copy permissions than the item is rez'd twice. If I interact with an object, the interaction happens twice.

Nothing has changed on this computer physically or software-wise. The only difference is normally I connect via a wireless connection. I am at the moment forced to use a wired connection. I don't understand how a different connection can cause double chats and actions but hey, I guess anything is possible.

I have re-logged, cleared my cache, tested it in other sims and other accounts. I have unisntalled/reinstalled and wiped everything in the directories. It is persistent and always happens.

Any suggestions that perhaps either myself or support have not thought of yet? Thank you in advance.

I should note I have also raided and lowered my connection bandwidth settings by +/-25%, +/-50% and +/-75% with no change in the behavoir.

I assume you are using Windows. Go into your local area network settings and make sure your wireless connection is disabled.

That's pretty weird.. It's usually wireless that causes that sorta thing.. .

edit: if you do Help->About SecondLife, what's it say your packet loss is?

Hrm, maybe it is an artifact from the former wireless connection. See if there is any connection sharing stuff still running on that machine or any others on the network, maybe there is confusion in there with the "new" wired network interface, and things are getting looped somewhere?

Just for kicks, also maybe try changing the port number in SL's network settings. If you're lucky, that might sneak around whatever it is that is echoing stuff.

Unfortunately Viktoria that's not the way NIC's work unless you do a lot of custom configuring which I have not. I did change the port for sh*ts and giggles but it didn't resolve the problem. What did resolve it is reverting back to using my wireless connection. I don't understand why wireless NICs are not supported. That makes no sense. The problem I suspect is the fact that the viewer is using UDP for the IM protocol and not TCP. So when packet loss or corruption occurs it is handled in an odd/incorrect way.
