Hi, I am currently thinking of getting a Dell Precision M6400 notebook/mobile workstation. I was wondering if anybody could let me know their SL experiences with the specs below, in particular with Vista 64 bit and the Nvidia Quadro. CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB OS: Windows Vista Business x64 SP1 Graphic card: NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M Graphics with 512MB2 memory Memory: 4GB, 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM Memory (2*204 I am aware that Quadros are not supported and there is no 64 bit viewer, but I was wondering if anybody had any advice. Thanks!

SL runs great on Vista x64. I've got three machines here with it, no OS related problems with SL. As for the Quadro, it's a crapshoot. Some viewer versions will work well with it, some won't. In my experience, it works more often than not. If you're comfortable with those odds, go for it. If not, then invest in a gaming machine. A good GeForce card will handle workstation software more reliably than a Quadro will handle games. If one machine has to do both, I'll err towards gaming hardware every time. In any case, there are much better options available than Dell. Malibal, for example, will build you a machine with the same video card, a MUCH nicer screen, better CPU, and significantly more built-in connectivity, for about $300 less than the closest equivalent from Dell. Take a look at http://malibal.com/

M6400 Sucks

I just got one, and it's been no end of trouble. There is a 3/4 second hitch so that any movement in SL has that mandatory lag. It makes it unusable. They've replaced my motherboard and it's still there.
If you do get one, get rid of the Dell Control Point stuff in the startup sequence, as it will wreck your broadband performance over all. Dell software not working on a Dell computer...their testers need to be shot.
