The following Idea is being distributed as completely Open Source. You may use it as prescribed by the license agreement I wrote in the sand at the beach yesterday. [01:44] <|Neurosys|> i just had a revolutionary idea [01:45] <|Neurosys|> u know how mmos, client/server games and like well secondlife for example... how they are all data on server streamed to clients from server only and more ppl bogs down server etc...etc... [01:45] <|Neurosys|> i was thinking of a type of secondlife server that wasnt the loadbearer.. but rather a 'world tracker' [01:46] <|Neurosys|> and the virtual worldz data (the thing sluggin down our ping times and lagging the gameplay itself) .... its the torrent... all the players... seeds [01:46] <|Neurosys|> so in the end what you would have is [01:47] <|Neurosys|> a multiplayer game server where having 200 simultaneous players would actually make you lag less Cool idea I had. Steal from the rich, give to the middleclass, Neurosys

I saw other ppl posting about this some time ago. The problem is that these kind of networks makes use of your whole upload bandwith and also generate a lots of connections. Some internet connections are not good to handle that because for example in my country, the upload bitrate is very low, some isp's filter torrent ports so you can't download at high speeds, etc etc etc.

The problem with a torrent is the files are static. The "swarming" is used to get pieces of the file everyone may/may not have. This particular implementation would not work where avatars are involved (moving, talking).
Now, where it would work is if the region (world) was static. The "torrent" could be all the region data. Users in the region now become "caches" of everything in world (textures, shapes, settings). The more users, the faster the region loads.
