Controls kick in erratically

I have a device similar to the swords in the environment, one which executes certain animations when you hold the left mouse button and hit the control keys. The trouble comes when I'm no where near the mouse and suddenly I launch a flurry of kicks, punches and other pummelings at dear friends around me or into the air. I'll recheck the code, but it looked proper when I reviewed it.
