I have a gig of RAM and NVidia GeForce go 6800 Graphic card. I am wondering if I add another gig would it help me to load graphics quicker in sl? It seems it has gotten worse over the past few months. It used to load faster than it does now. Every time I try to update my graphic card it says there isnt an update for it unless I'm doing it wrong. which i do thru the device manager and click on the update button. any help would be greatly appreciated

nvidia decided to be a pita and remove 6x00 series from their driver support a while ago, 7x00 series are almost all the way out
you can try a beta version, they usually support cards in the 5 or 6 series, but they might bring more hassle than their worth, im using them on my 7600GT and it seems fine, but fine is relevant to many factors
as far as ram, yea more is always better, but i dont think it will really help anything "load" faster, since 90% of load times are becuase LL uses a rabbit powered C-64, with a few bad wires as an asset server
make sure you know what you need, ie my dad's machine has 512mb of ram, but its on 2 256meg sticks, and the board only has 2 slots
so while im upgrading it this weekend, those 2 sticks are useless as a swap it out for a couple 512's

You need to download the driver form nvidia.com and install it. It will be a setup.exe style install.

It lets u know what kind u have and how many slots etc.. and the prices are not bad either. http://www.crucial.com/

Sasha, the newest nVidia driver that plays nicely with SL is 175.19. To find the download go to the nVidia driver download page and follow the link "Beta and archived drivers". After downloading it you will need to use add/remove programs to UNINSTALL your current driver. Then reboot. (Everything will look like crapola, just ignore it.)Wait about 2-5 minutes till Windows finishes its "found new hardware blabla" process. Then install the new driver. Then reboot again. My 7300LE is still going along just fine with SL using 175.19. 1GB of RAM is rather minimum for SL. I upgraded to 2GB and it made a huge difference in performance... going to 4GB has been great. With 4GB I can run multiple versions of SL or SL and Photoshop simultaneously, yay!

I hope you don't let Windows find and install a driver..............that defeats the purpose of the uninstallation. Just close the pop up dialogue about wanting to search for a driver. The install then new one.

From: Paracelsus Schonberg Hi, Peggy ~ The Windows 7 install found the correct driver from nVidia. Which is weird, and the install process was the best ever! Is MS actually improving? I have had Windows find and install a correct driver for hardware before. But, unless that driver is in the update data base at Microsoft, you will generally get something other than the most recent (as much as a year old).........timing is everything I guess. And for your question about Windows getting better. Yeah I think it is........actually, I think Windows gets a bad rap from a lot of people. Since about XP SP1, Windows has been quite good in the performance department (my opinion here). Most problems people experience with Windows is the "bloatware" that the manufacturers add to the OEM installation/recovery disks and the way most people configure their machines. Get rid of the bloatware and configure your computer for the tasks you want the machine to perform and Windows will run smoothly nearly all the time..........even Vista. Microsoft tends to try to make everything automatic (make it simple for the average user) which, in many ways is the root of the problems most have........there just ain't a 100% "average" user. Dig and find out what you need and what you want from your system......then configure it that way. If you do that then Windows, Linux, Mac, or any other OS will perform quite well for you.....and, for the "average" user there isn't a nickle's worth of difference (beyond the ease of use...........which, for most, Windows wins hands down).

Depending on what you mean by "loading graphics", the latest Release Candidate viewer might help. It certainly seems to be displaying textures like they ought to be instead of as gray much faster on my machine.
At the normal place for LL viewers, secondlife.com/downloads, toward the bottom left, usually.
