There are no changes to the networking in 1.2.13
When you install SL, it clears your local SL cache. If you are in an area dense with objects, textures, and sounds, it may take a few minutes for them to stream in again and save in your local SL cache.
If you have a solid internet connection, you could experiment with increasing your bandwidth setting to 500kbps. If you start seeing Packet Loss (the bar nearest your L$ in the top right of the screen), back your bandwidth back down.

I dunno. I've been hearing other reports about problems like being unable to fly, and such. And just a few minutes ago I came back from being away from my computer for about 20 minutes, and SL was EXTREMELY lagged, even on areas I had already cached.

Definitely a problem here. Three computers, three video cards, two differen networks. Bandwidth set high.
Extreme lag, very slow streaming to cache, even when simply turning around. FPS very low, bandwidth high/normal, no packet loss, high pings. Freezes up to twenty seconds almost every time avatar changes direction. Flight nearly impossible in many places.
These are high end machines on a DSL and a T-1; two ATI 9800 cards and an NVidia 5950. No problems before the update.
In Seacliff (low objects) FPS is averaging 60-70. In Cowell (high objects), there are freezes each time I go back, and FPS runs about 3-5.

If you've installed the new ATI drivers before the SL update, that's the problem for the ATI cards. Reload your old drivers and the problem should go away.

Kand, you're right. Going back to the prior ATI drivers solves the problem.

I dont have an ATI card..... my system specs are: Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz Geforce 4 5600 250 MB 1 GB of Ram Everything was running nice before the update... but now the game is not playable at all o_0 and I get 0.2 Frames Per Second. I have turned some other games I have on my PC UT 2003, UT 2004 Demo, Far Cry Demo, Halo, Vice City, Painkiller Demo and the games ran perfect

The problems with the 4.3 drivers are a result of a change in how ATI handles GL_SELECT - it runs MUCH slower under 4.3 than earlier drivers.
We've actually fixed this in 1.3 by changing how we do picking and selection - unfortunately, these changes are very difficult to port back to 1.2.
In the meantime, holding off upgrading to Catalyst 4.3 until after 1.3 comes out is recommended. But 1.3 is on the way soon, so don't despair!
