** EDITED TO INCLUDE OPERATING SYSTEM IN SPECS**
Hi- I'm really needing to upgrade my system, but I'm not sure which is the best route to go to begin with. My current system is this:
Dell XPS410 XP 2.8GHz Dual Core CPU 1.66 GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE 512
I'v got plenty of HDD space, so that's not been an issue.
My question is this: Which should I concentrate on upgrading first, RAM or video card? With my current RAM of 1.66, will a graphics card change do me any good, or will boosing my RAM extend the useful life of my current Nvidia card?
I can take up to 4GB Ram in the system, so is this my single best upgrade, or should I go with a new card and upgrade RAM later?
I appreciate any help from out there- thanks!

Ram first........at least 3 gigs. Then video card soon. You might check your power supply before the video card upgrade..........400 watts at a minium.

IMO it depends on you OS
VISTA?? get as much ram as that thing will hold and do it NOW!!
XP get the video card 7400LE, wow x400 series nvidia cards are weak, in the shop we call the LE's the looser editions (no offense)

I've got an option to get an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 512 - is that a decent enough card for SL?
I was thinking of going ahead and bumping up my RAM in any case- should I expect any better performace from that, or is it pretty much dependent on my graphics card?

The 7300 LE is a lightweight version of the full card.
I would check with your MotherBoard specifications before spending any money. See what its upgrade potential. If you find 2gb slow ram is a limit, FSB speed is considered slow, the GC port (AGP/PCI/Pci-e), if the first two ports, then don't waste money. Your cheaper solution that will serve you better for the next couple of years (maybe) will be to consider upgrading the whole system.
You can always install your HD in the new system to keep your data and increase storage. If you make incremental upgrades now, you are simply delaying the enivitable, which maybe stiffled by slow and limited ram, FSB bottlenecks, limited upgrade for GC.
If you find budget to be limited, consider purchasing a new MB, porting all your existing equipment over and then changing each as and when you can afford. Ovbiously this requires experience in such things.
