I recently aquired a new laptop with a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, and I seem to have a distorted graphic view in world, almost like the prims dont fully load. I get all these colored boxes, lines, and sometimes the screen goes black. My graphic card is a ATI mobility radeon HD 4670, which I am told is an excellent card for gaming. I called Dell, they dont even seem to be able to figure out what is wrong, yes, i have the latest drivers uploaded as well.....does anobody have any suggestions on what the problem might be, or how to solve it?

As a long time nVidia user I cannot give you any first hand information but from reading many posts and comments on these forums it seems ATI cards are a little weak in the OpenGL department for graphics rendering. Most problems like the one you are discribing can be solved by going to your preferrences > graphics > clicking the "custom" > hardware and finding the "Vertex Object Buffering" (VBO) and unchecking it. VBO is an OpenGL thing.

Im not disputing ATI's excellence in the gaming area. Most games are developed using DirectX instead of OpenGL.....SL is developed using OpenGL. It seems ATI has chosen to focus most of it's rendering efforts in the direction of DirectX to satisfy the needs of the majority of the gamers......not a bad thing but it leaves the OpenGL folks sort of out in the cold. NVidia users don't seem to have this problem.

Hope it fixes it for you.

Call Dell back to let them know...........so maybe the next poor soul with your problem might get a little help from them. Plus Dell Support would be the "Hero"!!
