Please where is a list of the names of all the 256 meter x 256 meter regions and their places in the grid of regions (I seem to read that it is called Agni)?

How long each way is the whole of the Agni grid area?

The grid is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to the grid.

it's exact size creates one part of an improbability equation that if you were floating in space and needed rescued by a passing spacecraft within 30 seconds, it would be the phone number to a nice islington flat that throws nice parties. :)

p.s. on a more serious note, i sadly notice that slmaps.com seems offline... :\ was about the only close-at-hand answer i coulda had.

Go to slurl.com and zoom out. Scroll around, too. It is pretty freakin' huge.

About 23K regions I think? Bigger than Hong Kong now.

Two to the power of three against, and falling. Two to one... normality. We have normality. Anything you can't handle now is your own problem.

1,048,576 x 1,048,576 is the maximum number of regions in the current grid configuration, of course most of that space is empty at present

I did some Googling around, a fair bit, and I can't find what seems to be an up to date list of sims.

Not even close. I did find a place that says it has 13,000 or so. That was at SLBuzz.

There's a list in the SL Wiki, but it's out of date.

The most northwesterly region that I have found is Charhan Island01 .

I found a list of all the (regions in the Teen Grid). But I am adult and so I can't get into the Teen Grid.

Strange numbers.. Why is it 2^20?

/me is not doubting, just curious.

Computers run in binary. To a computer, powers of two are round numbers.,

As of August 10th 2009 > Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28, 816 (23, 277 private estates & 5, 539 Linden owned). /354/22/296275/17.html#post2524531

Found this: Current Teen Grid Islands = 197 sims. As of August 8th 2009 according to Blau Rascon > http://blaubeermund.wordpress.com/2009/08/08/current-teen-grid-islands/

So, since a sim is 256 M x 256 M, if there are 28,816 sims, the total surface area of the Grid is 1,888,485,376 M2, or roughly 1,888.5 square Kilometers, or about 729 square miles.

By comparison, London England has an area of 659 sq mi (1,706 sq km).

As another comparison, the Grid is less than 1/2 the surface area of the smallest state in the USA, Rhode Island, which is 1,545 square miles.

Of course, the Grid is not packed solid, edge to edge. There is a LOT of empty space between sims. So if you wanted to define the surface area of a box that enclosed ALL the sims, the area would be much larger. But only 1,888.5 square Kilometers is actual, usable surface area. The rest is just space on the map between the sims. based on the numerical grid that tracks the position of every sim.
