This is becoming a common thing for me. I'll hit the connect button and immediately get the following error message: Unable to connect to Second Life. DNS could not resolve the host name. Please verify that you can connect to the www.secondlife.com website. If you can, but continue to receive this error, please go to the support section and report this problem. I can get to the website just fince but since LL seems to think that they are too good to receive error reports from non-premium accounts, I'm unable to do what their very own prompt tells me to do. To be honest, it's reasons like this that I REFUSE to upgrade my account. I mean really...who wants to pay for a service that they can rarely log in to and use? Anyway...is there any known fix for this? Normally I have to give up and play Eve for a few hours and then SL will finally let me in.

I have had this before and for me it was just a case of waiting like you said. In my case it was a problem with my ISP, a node in Amsterdam was malfunctioning and causing any ping to SL servers to fail. After about 48 hours it was sorted out. If it doesn't right itself soon you might want to contact your ISP.

Just FYI, basic accounts DO have support; it's just limited. Basic accounts have a special section in the support portal.
At any rate, you running wireless? Cable? DSL? Wireless DSL? Try turning off and resetting your modem. Also, you might consider contacting your Internet Service Provider and tell them that you've been experiencing some odd stuff. It could be that you're not getting quite enough connectivity to the SL servers anymore.

I have cable and am on a wired connection. I've contacted the ISP and they're not seeing any problems.I did a tracert to www.secondlife.com and there's 1 jump that takes 208-220ms. The rest are below 80. The 220 shouldnt be enough to cause a problem though.

My cable connection from the street to the house was "fine" according to the ISP, but degraded very quickly once inside the house, even over a distance of 20 feet. I could do everything else on the internet except SL; my pings and DL/UL speed tests all seemed fine, but I still couldn't run SL. The cable guy came out and installed an amplifier inside the house; problem solved instantly. Hopefully yours is something similar.
