I know land, objects, and how long will it take to be deleted have all been asked but.....
What happens to the rates and cards we have gotten from those who are not able to stay?
I can see rates sticking because we took the time to at least get rated, and some of us actually got to know those who rated us.
But cards....I think they should be systematicly deleted, I for one wouldn't want to try to figure out who all in my card list is gone...It would be a pain, and not to mention maybe a painfull reminder of who will be missed. For those who have many more cards then me..Well I hope you earned everyone, but I know it would be much more time consuming and painfull to remember all those in there that are to be gone.
Lindens plz consider this. And as a second request, plz reconsider giving the people more time that couldn't afford to go Lifer by the 23rd. There, IMO, wasn't enough time givin after prices were released.

When an account is deleted its my understanding the card is cancelled. I could be wrong tho. Good question on the rates.

the card is cancelled but still in your inventory, i have a few right now that say (cancelled) then the persons name, so easy to delete.

There is a difference between 'cancelled' and disappearing cards. When an avatar is removed by Linden Lab due to inactivity or not paying, the card simply disappears from your inventory. As far as I know, the rating from this person will stay. A cancelled card is when an avatar intentionally deleted your card from their inventory, it will show up as cancelled in yours. I have lost over 300 cards in the past few weeks from avatars that have had their accounts disabled, yet, I have only about 50 cancelled cards in my inventory.

Concerning ratings.
We're beta members, we get discounted rates, we get a head start on land, we get a head start on ratings. If we lose our ratings when people leave the game (which makes sense for the beta->live transition, but not post-beta. if you want an explanation, ask and I'll post it later) then all that does is put us on more of a level with all the new people comming in.
So, losing our ratings makes sense to me *shrug*.

I can understand what you are saying dave but ratings are the only way I can keep any the head start on land and buildings we get. If my ratings suddenly drastically drop because of people leaving or not continuing beta I will be forced to close up most of my projects (including my share of darkwood) and I wouldn't be the only one. It was my understanding that as beta testers we were partly helping to create the world so that it wasn't empty on release. A significant drop in ratings would cancel that out for many.

Good questions, and I hope this clarifies how the system works.
Purging a user is completed in two distinct steps. The first marks their land and content public. The second cleans out most references to them in the database. During the database cleansing, the symmetric calling cards are deleted and ratings given to them are removed; however, ratings the user gave are preserved. So, no one's ratings should fall because someone left Second Life.
