After spending a few hours inworld, my computer's power tends to cut out...completely shut off. It does restart when I press the power button but as soon as I relog back into SL it shuts down again. Has anyone else suffered from this problem? Is Second Life causing this to happen or is there something wrong with my hardware? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is something wrong with your computer. Most likely some hardware device getting too hot and shutting down the computer before it completely burns up. Likely suspects.......graphics card, CPU and your power supply. But it could be anything inside your computer case.

System specs would be useful, such as

what wattage your power supply is,
what operating system and "service pack" level,
what kind of processor,
brand and model of computer, or if that's not available, type of motherboard
amount of ram,
brand and model of video card,
amount of video ram

and so on.

Have you opened your box and watched to see that all the fans are spinning properly?

You might want to get some canned air and blow out the dust.

When the system is turned off, do the fans spin easily if you push them gently?

Are there vents in the case that can be cleaned of dust?

If you have the software to read your temperature, what temperature do you get?

Most likely it's an overheating issue, but it could also be a bad RAM module and/or RAM socket.

It could also be a timing issue. I used to experience instant shutoffs like that on a machine that was incorrectly overclocked. The CPU was talking faster than the RAM could listen, and when it would run a taxing app like SL, it would up and quit, usually at the worst possible times. As soon as I clocked the CPU down to normal, the problem stopped.
