Hi- I wonder if anyone can help with this? Until recently I've suffered the usual, run of the mill problems with SL. I normally log on using my own PC, which is connected to a Blekin ADSL router by cable. My internet connection speed varies between 2mbs-6mbs. However, when I use a 2nd PC, which is connected wirelessly (via a Belkin 54g wireless adaptor) to the same router, the wireless connection speed drops from an average of 54mbs to sometimes as low 1mbs. However, the internet connection speed drops too, today's low being 5kbs. This is affecting the other two PCs we have connected to the router. This drastic internet slowdown only started to happen two weeks ago.

Try resetting your router and modem. If that doesn't solve it you might call your ISP to see if they are experiencing problems in your area.......or if they are throttling your connection.

I use a belkin router. Try updating the bios (not to be done lightly). Wireless connections will always run slower than ethernet connections (don't bother with any USB connections). Check the security logs, see if you are suffering flood attacks, and also set up Mac addresses for each PC attaching to the system. Enabling AES security for wireless is a must, with a good shared key, should stop anyone in your area piggy backing onto your wireless connection, stealing valuable bandwidth. If your ISP is BT, harrass them, as they liberally interleave connections, upping your contention ratios. Use a tracer programme that records your ping, latency and bandwidth (up and down), send those to BT support, you are allowed by law to do so at a rate of 10 per minute that usually gets the message over.
