Hi,

Little problem editing text in IM window before sending. I dont know what it is I do, but once in a while it switches to a mode where a very heavy cursor appears in the text where I want to insert, and I have to repeat typing everything from the insert point onward. It does not advance the text to the right of the insertion, and what i isnsert overlays what is there. In other words, I can't really insert. How does this happen, and how do I switch back to "normal" editing mode?

Thanks for the help.

The mode you are used to is called "Insert Mode". The other mode is called "Overwrite Mode". Overwrite mode is somewhat like an old fashioned typewriter. It's quite common for text entry systems to have both modes.

Overwrite mode is also called overtype mode.

It's also called overstrike mode, though I think that is actually an error.
