Can a cancelled account be recovered?

Hi, I registered my first Second Life account back in Nov 2006 but since I was unable to run the software I cancelled it a decision I've regretted now because I want an ALT.
Since then I have upgraded my hardware and registered a new username but I'm curious now, I was able to search and find my old account name although I cannot to login for obvious reasons.
Is there anyway to reverse the cancellation, I've been told by some residents they will if you pay Liden Labs but I cannot find any information regarding this on their homepage.

As far as I know you need to go to the LL website and login on the name you cancelled, there should be a recovery option there somewhere. I forget what it costs to recover a old name but believe it isn't much.

EDIT: Its in your "My Account" section and if I am correct I think, but ain't sure you may need to call LL to re-open a cancelled account. Might be wrong though

Well I login just fine however I get:

Are you having a little trouble with your password or security
question? We can get this straightened out by talking to you.

Please call us: (866) 476-9763.

Nothing I click on the left-hand side works I just keep getting this error message as above.
Since I'm from the UK and not the USA I don't think it's right I should have to call them overseas they should have my email on file can they not contact me this way?

Rick Download Skype you can make overseas calls for a fraction of the cost of any service provider for normal land line. I am in Australia and had to call a company in the USA, was on the line for about 15 mins and cost was $2

Keep in mind that any inventory you might have had back then will have been wiped by now (including your L$ balance) so the only thing you'll get for your $9.95 is the name (that's assuming you actually did cancel the account vs just not using it).

If that's all you're after, then do call LL. Also keep in mind that any "no transfer" inventory your current avie has is indeed non-transferable so if it's something you really want you'll need to repurchase that on your older account.

My poor avatar never made it to Help Island so my inventory or balance wouldn't be an issue.
I don't understand why I have to call them when they have my email address on file.
Also being a basic account holder I don't get access to webchat or to submit a support ticket which I think is unfair under the circumstances.
Does LL accept paypal or do I have to pay them another way?

It seems I was wrong about the ticket support they will allow this for un-cancelling accounts.
However after much exchange of personal details I've been told the following:

--
Thanks for contacting Linden Lab, about this issue.

Unfortunately we can no longer reactivate this account, due to the amount of time that it has been cancel for.

--
Are they kidding me, they can't re-activate an account because it has been cancelled for so long how is that possible since the name is still active in their database??

I'm disappointed and gutted now :(

Is there some sentimental attachment to the name? If you just want an alt, make a new account.

Basically I wanted an ATL to avoid certain shallow people in Second Life the ones giving me some trouble.
I know I can register a new name but since the account I'm trying to recover is really old so no one would ever suspect. :)
It's a pity really I was prepared to pay LL to have it re-activated but they were unable to help.

You cancelled it. Why in the world would you expect LL to reactivate it? We used to complain because old accounts weren't purged; now they are and people still complain.

When you cancel an account you get a message that the account is kept for 6 month for reactivation (for USD 10 reactivation fee).
I assume that the name is kept in the database for much longer, but the inventory and other data may be deleted after that time - so they have the name, but cannot reactivate the account.

If a reactivated account doesn't work you should contact linden via ticket to get the account fixed and fully reactivated.

last I tried (several months ago) you could use Skype to call LL's US toll free number for free from another country, coincidently I called to help a friend that realized it was a mistake to have canceled his account (ironically a mutual friend had already managed to do it by the time I started talking with someone, I don't remember if he did it with support tickets or if he talked with them in person)
