Premium Account - Land Question

First of all, sorry if this has already been answered, but the search function won't let me search if any words are shorter than 4 letters (searching "pay for land" won't work!)

So, I have a premium account, billed anually. I understand that I get 512 sq m with this account. So if I want to buy another 512 sq m plot, I have to pay the L$ for the land, plus an additional $5/mo? If this is the case, I'm curious how you "make" money in SL. I understand you can sell skins, models etc for L$, but if you can't pay for your extra land with L$, what good is the extra L$ you're making? Even if you build a huge mall and sell things right and left, you're still selling it for L$, not $USD.

Once again, sorry if this seems lame... just trying to understand how some people can afford a whole island at $195/mo. :)

I think the aspect you aren't aware of is that many people sell their L$ for US$ on currency exchanges like GOM Today you'd only need about L$1,000 to trade in for $5US.
So obviously a healthy little business in world can easily cover your land tier fees.
