text only viewer for Ubuntu machine

So my sweet new Dell puked and died (vid card issue). Thanks to all the problems they've been having with their machines the replacement part isn't available until late feb. The only other option was to wait two weeks for a replacement machine which is obviously the option I've taken. In the meantime however I'd like to get my painfully old Toshiba laptop machine into SL somehow. Text only would work fine, just so I can tell people I didn't die if nothing else (although I might without my computer).

This machine is running Ubuntu because that's all that will run on it. It will not run the regular SL client at all... not just won't run well, won't open period. If anyone can suggest a very tiny text only program that would work for me I'd be a very happy camper. And yes, I'm sure other people have asked this but getting that out of the forums with my slower connection has been difficult.

TIA to any suggestions.

There are web based viewers called Movable Life and one called AjaxLife.

There's a wiki page on alternate viewers at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers .

Thanks... looks like ajax life is down possibly forever and for some reason I can't get a response from the server for movable life but I'll keep trying or create an new alt just to get in if that works. I had checked out the alt viewers but most if not all appeared to make for a better more high performance SL which sadly isn't what this machine will handle. I'll keep trying Movable Life unless someone else has another suggestion.

Bad news about AjaxLife.

I think some of the text only clients are open source and in theory able to be compiled for linux .

Yup, can't get in to movable life at all, even with a newly created alt. Keep getting "error retrieving server response"

Not sure if that's a problem with movable life or something about this puter or? If anyone has any other ideas that would be super

Same error here on Windows based Flock for Movable Life. It could be a brief problem. I have tried it before and had it work and not work.

Might as well try it with IE.

Same thing with IE.
