I am having a problem with my newview.exe

The green bar will begin to load and gets about 3/4 of the way into it before it hits "Initializing Region". Once I get there, an error is given stating something is wrong with my newview.

After reading numerous posts (2 threads on the issue) I tried to roll back my driver (no success), and I tried to uncheck the AGP accelerator (no success), I'm completely lost as what to do. Someone please help! All this information about the game is making me salivate, I MUST PLAY!!!

 Thanks,

~Mark -------------

In regard to my last post ^ , I have found that actually double clicking the newview.exe and then going to "quit" produces the same resulting error.

"Error signature-----------------------

AppName: newview.exe AppVer:1.0.0.1 ModName:newview.exe ModVer: 1.0.0.1
Offset: 003e83b9

----------------------------------------"

Trust me I've read ALL the posts and none have worked for me I have reverted back to the nVidia 44.* whatever that one is.. Any advice would be helpful

Not unless theres a firewall at RIT's network ...

If there is, I dont do anything special to get around it with other progs :(

UPDATE

Yes I am behind a very secure firewall --

BUT --

It should/does not affect gameplay -- I've never had trouble connecting to people with broadband before - no other online's have had trouble - never have to add extra settings either ..

Thanks ne-way :)

Just cuz you havn't before doesn't mean won't for this. Doesn't mean you will, but doesn't mean you won't.

SL does a LOT more communication between your computer and the servers, so its quite possible the firewall is the problem.

What video driver -are- you useing? Try 41.09 if you havn't.

Also make sure you have up to date motherboard / AGP drivers and that AGP is enabled and working properly.

Thanks for your help:

Unfortunetly it did not solve my problem -

I updated my AGP (even though it was fine), and I tried rolling back AGAIN.. None of it worked. Is anyone else on a college campus having trouble? I dont know of a way to get 'round this firewall either.

If not, then I'm real lost..

Regards,

~Mark

One Other Note..
05-20-2003 11:32
I seem to get the SAME error when I just "Quit" w/out doing anything, right after I log in. If I actually try and connect (it gives me that it's not open [because it's not]), and THEN quit, I get no error message. Hope this helps troubleshooting...

[1] Are you double-clicking on newview.exe or are you running the shortcut created by the installer? There are some command-line arguments that the shortcut includes...

[2] I alternate between relatives and a college campus, at both I am behind an SMC router w/ firewall, and on campus I am also behind their firewall. However that is configured, I have had zero troubles with connecting to SL (ie not had to change anything).

The person to ask would likely be Dave Zeeman, as I believe he goes to RIT and so I'm sure he has experience getting into SL from there. Send him a PM through the forums here...

So what your saying is that your not saying anything, but that doesn't mean you didn't say something, but still have something to say.

This wouldn't strike me nearly as funny if it wasn't so early.

LOL Xav, exactly! hehe

Thats just my response when people say it can't be their computers fault cuz they can run MS word or something, so it must be SL, how can they fix it?

* If it really isn't your computers fault and has to be SL then there is no way to fix it. I mean you already said your computer and setup was perfectly fine cuz it can run MS word or whatever. So how can you fix a perfectly setup system?

* Just cuz your setup runs MS Word or some other game doesn't mean its perfectly fine for running this one!

* And there is the possibility something is wrong with SL. :p It is beta afterall.
