Hi

I just purchased a brand new HP pavillion dv9830us notebook
has NVIDIA GeForc 8600GS
4 gig ram
etc

It would not launch SL saying the driver is out of date or card is not supported
downloaded latest driver from HP
reloaded SL
and still have the same resluts

I have noticed in the forms, ppl are using this card with SL with some success

Im having trouble getting bast first base here

Help

thanks

Instead of going to HP for your driver go to nVidia's web site. If you find one (and you probably will) download it to your hard drive. Then uninstall your old driver from your computer then install the new one. See if that helps.

Computer manufacturers are seldom current on their driver offerings. That's why it's best to go directly to the video card manufacturer. And drivers (especially video drivers) are quirky if not properly installed. It's always best to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones.......and yes, you will be able to see without the driver. It will be low quality but it will be good enough to get the proper one installed.

Just like She said... make sure to uninstall the ones u got first.. not allways needed, but its allways better to do so.. and then restart, and install some up to date drivers.. here is the link to nvidia's driver page.

I have the same card in a Vaio notebook and it worked right from the start...with the Sony-provided drivers. I wonder why HP uses apparently outdated drivers???

Thanks folks for your support.
Was able to finally get it to work but not due to the new driver.
Apparently, drivers for these laptop video cards were specifically developed to allow for the energy constraints of the Laptop thus wasnt able to use their normal drivers.
Ended up reinstalling driver which came with computer and was successful.

I love the freedon in SL I've never had before.

Best regards
