SL was working fine for me for a long time but i changed comps and now it wont work, i checked system requirements and the new computer should be able to work, When i open SL now, all I get is a blank screen, without a loading screen or anything. The graphic card im using is Nvidia 8600 and a Vista system.

Go to nVidia's website and search the archived drivers for 175.19 driver version.......download it and install it. Uninstall whatever driver you are using now first though.
Then come back and let us know how it's working. If you are still having issues them maybe clue us in on a little more about your computer. Since we all are in the dark without some information about your computer (besides the meager "The graphic card im using is Nvidia 8600 and a Vista system." ![]() |

The driver wasnt the problem, Computer Info:
Graphic Card: Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT Driver: Latest System: Vista Internet: DSL Other stuff: I dont know Is there any programs i have to install? EDIT: It seems that even though the screen remains blank, all the buttons are still there. (when I put the mouse over where the login boxes should be, it turned into an 'I', and pressing somewhere after a while clicked a link on the blank screen). Anyone know what's wrong? |

Your listing of your computer specs state that the driver version is the "latest". I can assure you that the nVidia GeForce 8600GT is a supported card and runs SL exceptionally well for a nearly 2 year old card (I have the exact same one in this computer and have absolutely no problems whatsoever with the graphics in SL). The "latest" driver has had some complaints of having issues with OpenGL rendering (the rendering engine LL uses for SL)......I believe that is something like 177 or 178.**. The 175.19 driver version works......that's the one I suggested you download and install.
Though you did not list your CPU and RAM I think it's probably not a factor since you can run Vista. And if it's a computer less than about 2 years old it most likely has at least a dual core processor. To even run Vista you have to have at least 1 gig of RAM. That one gig is cutting it real close for SL to run well but it should, at least, get you in world (rather poorly but you should be able to get in). Uninstall whatever that "latest" driver is and install 175.19. That would, at least, eliminate the driver as a source of your problem. Assuming, of course you installed the driver properly. You cannot just install a driver as if it were some sidebar for your desktop. |

I couldnt find the driver you said but found an older one i think it was 174.something, sadly it didnt fixed anything, thx for the suggestion

One or two monitors?
Perhaps it's a firewall or other security problem. This problem sounds similar: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9276 That problem was solved by setting Vista's Window Color and Appearance to Windows Vista Standard. _____________________

no, I recently switched to a new comp because my old comp sucked horribly, and it couldn't run, I'll try the vista display thing and my firewall is off o.O
-Edit: it seems it has fixed my problem, thanks for all your help everyone =) |
