In order to try to figure out what is happening people need to have more information.

What kind of processor do you have? How fast is it?

How much ram?

What operating system and what service pack level?

Desktop or laptop?

What is the brand and model number of video card or onboard graphics processor?

How much video ram?

What type of internet service - cable, dsl, satellite?

Wired or wireless?

Brand and model of router.

What Firewall software?

What anti-virus software?

What anti-malware software?

What version of SL are you using?

Has SL ever worked for you?

what are your system specs? And by a grey screen you mean just a window with a solid grey? No UI?

we need more information to even guess at what might be wrong. At least:

Your SL version you are trying to run (the regular client is 1.19.4, the Release Candidate is 1.20.12)
Your CPU speed (AMD or Intel is helpful so some extent)
Your graphics card or accelerator (plug in card or onboard)
The RAM of that card or accelerator
Your system RAM
Your operating system
Type of computer (desktop or laptop)
Your connection to the internet (DSL, Cable, Satellite)
Are you connected via a home (or office) network? And if so, the router wired wirelessly or hardwired.
If no network then is your modem wireless?

And besides the very vague "just a light grey screen".......what exactly are you seeing? Any user interface? Blobs of grey objects? Does it look like something is trying to show up but nevet quite does?

I know I cannot even make a single suggestion to you.......you need to help us out here.

Grey scene and at the top is what looks like an outline of a building and once or twice seen outline of a girl which i presume is me. I will return to this forum tomorrow with more info

Choose Secondlife,
it will give you a pc spec end of test take about 1~2 min maybe.

Gray screen sounds like a video card issue, not supported or drivers.

That sounds like severe lag. The textures are not loading or loading very slowly. The causes can be almost anything but a good place to start is go here, run the test and come back and tell us the results:

Yes, that helps a lot............your download speed is very slow. Call your ISP and ask why. I think you have DSL.........you should get somewhere closer to 700 kbps.

Next time you log in to SL try waiting it out........see how long it takes for the textures to load for you.
