My RC client seems to be crashing every time I try to start up and automatically goes to the error report prompt. Re-installing a previous version and then the most up to date version fixes the problem temporarily but is getting to be rather annoying because it has to be done after every restart. I've read a few posts describing about the same issue which was solved by changing the color settings to the highest 32-bit however mine is already currently set at that. Please note, the regular client is still working correctly, I was just using the RC because of certain features like windlight and the voice stabilization. If anyone has any idea what's going on I would really appreciate any feedback.
I am running Windows Vista Premium with an Nvidia 8500GT graphics card with all of the most up to date drivers.

Try a clean xml has helped a few, SL seem load one that isnt right it will instant crash, no amount of uninstall, clear cache will help since it in app.folder. This one helped me when i had it, after 1.9.1 update and other one it flipped out the xml file, so a new one worked, old one instant crashed client. You can 'course just delete the normal xml file to tho. Btw newest nvidia drivers = crappy shiney surface, unless thats fixed /333/39/228606/1.html

Okay... I followed the steps provided and if I did it correctly it still hasn't fixed anything. This is starting to get REALLY frustrating and I'm sure I'm not the only one having this problem.
I would really appreciate any other suggestions because honestly, I'm ready to pull my hair out!

Just downloaded the new RC client in hopes that it would fix the problem but I still have to re-install every time I want to log in...

No I'm having the same problem, Every time I attempt to start SL it crashes as soon as it gets to where I can see the Password and name entry areas. I've tried everything from completely uninstalling every version of SL I have and cleaning out the folders it might have left behind. I've even tried the blank XML bit to no avail all it did was bring up to "Describe what happened" prompt when it crashed. I've been unable to log in for over 3 weeks due to this "bug" or "glitch" and that is useing all the latest released and Release Candidates with the same effect with them all.
Running Windows XP Pro SP2 Radion 9800 XT Pro Everything up todate, never had a problem till now

I'm starting to have the same problem. As soon as I click on my SL icon I get 2 seconds of it and then the crash logger appears.

I've found that the only way I can start the game is by re-installing before every start-up, which is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery ridiculous.

I ran into this issue and for some reason my display adapter had changed its settings from 32 to 16.
Display Properties -> Settings
Set Color Quality to "Highest 32 bit"
This resolved for me.

Also, the first thing I got after the approximately 8th crash today was a error message. It read "The procedure entry point NSSRWLock - Destroy could not be located in the dynamic link library nss3.dlll"
That happened 3 times. I cleared cache, then I didn't get the error message, but the game still crashes at the point of "Initializing world"

I signed up for Second Life today and downloaded the file and installed it and it crashed multiple times at the screen where you enter your name and password. I've tried the few suggestions in this thread and no luck. I will wait a few days to see if they have a newer version or some kind of bug fix but I would have loved to see what SL is all about today!

You may have unsupported hardware if you keep crashing even before you try to log in, cant guess without spec's posted.

I went to the web page that shows what you need to have to support second life and I believe everything was fine on my end. What specs would you need me to post?

Vista and SL along with Ati has issues, its in this forum somewhere but i dont have a Ati anymore so i wouldnt know what to suggest to do, the ones i seen went back to windows xp if they had ati and it would be much less buggy/crashy. Easiest way is to avoid Vista since the opengl drivers for Ati is pretty bad, been a few months now maybe they ever fixed the drivers for opengl now, wouldnt know.
You could try uninstall ,restart, reinstall new vid card drivers, but thats pretty generetic "copy/paste" reply to this issue, cant help to try i guess.

Well then, since avoiding Vista is not an option, and going back to XP is not an option I guess I can only hope that sometime in the next few months they solve the problem with a newer version of Second Life or maybe updated drivers for ATI. I have never had the opportunity to even see what SL looks like since I've never been able to login. I'm not sure at this point if I will go thru all the trouble to resolve this issue. Maybe some Saturday when I have an hour or two. Thanks for your help.

I have just created my account today; downloaded the client and installed without issue. Every time I run the game I get a black screen with the window title bar and min/max buttons; then it brings up the crash logger ..
My System:
WinXP Pro SP2 AMD Athlon64 3400+ NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GS (AGP version) 2.25Gb RAM
EDIT:
BTW, I'm using the current version of the standard client (1.19.1.4)

I updated to the latest version of second life and then updated my drivers for my graphics card, I have ATI Radeon X1300, and the driver was a few years old even though my computer is only 6 months old, go figure.
Now second life is working just fine other than being somewhat slow. I'm glad I did decide to sit down and trouble shoot this problem further. Hope the rest of you are able to work things out.
Thanks for everyone's help.
