You may be having overheating problems with your graphics card. Does it happen right away if your computer has been off overnight?

You will have to do something to increase the cooling of your machine. More fans or whatever.

Unfortuantely if this just started happening then your card may also just be going bad now, memory failures due to high temp use for months of SLing for example.

Yours would not be the first video card "burned out" by SL usage :D

One thing you can try before spending money and effort on adding extra cooling to you computer is just take the side of the case off and point a house fan at it. If you don't have those problems after it being off over night for a few hours then chances are good it's a heat issue, but often when a card starts to glitch due to heat the damage is already done. That may not be your issue, but I've had similar things happen before from my video cards dying due to heat, like random polygons on avatars flashing on and off, vertexes shooting off into infinity creating odd spiky things, and random colored pixels. It would help if you can borrow someone else's graphics card to try in your computer for a day.

I'm not sure how big the difference is. The GTX should have quite a bit for RAM on it, but I'm not sure the speed difference is very much. I use an 8800GTX and love it. I forgot to ask before. Are you having problems with the regular viewer or just with Windlight?

The 8600 series card is complete crap. That's the truth. The 9600GTS is better than the 8600 by FAR. The 88xx series is a very great (Top of the line from Nvidia right now) series.
