After today's update I have tried to log on twice and both times encountered a full system lockup within 5 minutes. No task manager...no nothing. It basically forces me to reset the box. I have been playing for weeks now with no problems at all....and nothing new has been added or installed on this particular machine in a while...anyone else seeing this?

Hello Duck:
The usual suspects in theis case are older drivers. As always we suggest you make sure your grahphics card, sound and, most importantly, motherboard drivers are up to date. Of all of these, MB drivers, especially older AGP drivers seem to be our Mummy's curse. To update your MB drivers, you need the manufacturer and exact MB model number. Goto the manufacturer's website (unless it's a laptop in which case you can only get drivers from the laptop manufacturer) with the MB model #, and foillow the instructions to update the MB drivers. It's really important you don't just wing it, as there is a specific process and, while it's not difficult, if you make a mistake, very bad things can and will happen to your computer. I'd also going to http://secondlife.com/download and dowloading a new version of SL, then, through the Add/Remove Prtograms tool in your Windows Control Panel, uninstall Second Life, then reinstall with the freshly downloaded copy. If that doesn't help, please send me an email through support@lindenlab.com with the exact problrm you're having, as well as what step's you've taken to resolve it and we'll go from there. Thanks Colin |
