Hi ! I wish to buy a laptop. I'm considering an apple laptop or a PC laptop. What is a "correct" apple laptop to run SecondLife nicely ? Reference and/or link to apple store appreciated, thx About budget : I don't want to pay "too much", but i haven't any price limitation. I just want to pay the "correct price" for a laptop that can run SL without problem

definitely look into the intel macs - the universal binary of sl reportedly gets phenomenal fps on 'em!! now, that being said - many of the first generation of 'mactel' laptops have some board probs; apple has just acknowledged the issue, and is running a program to replace those with botchy machines. ( http://www.macintouch.com/ for lots of good info) so, that's the bad news... now the good news is... you can probably get a great deal on one of these machines, refurbished and fixed up better than before, in apple's own webstore ( http://store.apple.com). look for the red 'save' tag to the lower right and give it a click. there still may very well be better deals out there on pc's - lol, i never shop for 'em but if you're flexible like dat, then i would easily guess that there's still better deals on the pc side. hope that helps - computer shopping is always fun hope you get a good new toy!

SL runs fine on my Powerbook - 1.5Ghz, 1 gig RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700.

I'm considering a Dual-G5 desktop computer too. I'm looking at both offer on laptop (Apple or PC), i can't find something good enough for intensive gaming. And the "very good laptop" are insanly higher price. i dunno what to do now Edit : maybe i'm looking for "too much" power

i know the feeling, lol i've had a few previous maclaps, and they're gorgeous - but this last time around, i simply couldn't spring for one. this time instead, i started from the cheaper end... minis seem extremely underpowered for sl, i took a chance and went instead with a refurb emac... terrific deal... got 1gig ram from ramjet, and (with a few extra prefs unchecked sl is playable. if you look at these too, then be sure it's the newer emac with a 64m vram card.

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/ <- yes ? YES ? From: someone Power Up With MagSafe
The new power adapter with MagSafe connector is designed to magnetically guide your cord into place and disconnect smoothly if someone (else) trips over it.

I recently got myself an 20" Intel-duo iMac, and I can wholeheartedly recommend them, do stick some more memory into it so you have at least a 1 Gb. Goodluck with our purchase

From: kerunix Flan I don't want to pay "too much", im not shure there is an apple computer that doesnt cost "too much" the ibook G4 looks ok, needs more ram tho starting at 999 for a 1.4 ghz 64bit processor ... in the pc world you could get a 3ghz 64bit processor for about the same (probally better video)

PC vs MacBook, for the price of the macBook, with more or less the same CPU/GfxCard/Memory :
IBM is more expensive. Dell have something similar, but with a NVIDIA Quadro instead of ATI X1600
the MacBook Pro can fight with the high-end PC laptop.
Edit: oops, i forgot that the macBook is *only* a 15" screen.

yes, the MacBook Pro runs SL quite nicely for a laptop, i use mine all the time.... as long as there is a current testing of the UB version (until they fully release it) when they went from 1.8 to 1.9 for a day i had to play the PPC version under Rosetta emulation and its very slow... was a bad day dont even think about buying an ibook, the ibooks have had minor updates but are basically 2 year old laptops souped up to be a bit faster. the MacBook (not the MacBook Pro) that should be replacing the ibooks is rumored to be released in June. If you want a cheap Mac laptop, I'd wait until then since the ibooks are very underpowered for their price. If you dont get a Mac, at least load Linux on the machine so you have a real OS
