64 bit Vista and Second Life

I'm preparing to buy a new laptop. The one I want is gaming system that comes with 64 bit Vista. I'm trying to find out if SL will run on a 64 bit OS. I see posts in the forums and through Goggle that say it does, and others say it doesn't.

Does anyone have experience running SL on Windows Vista 64 bit?

I ran sl on an HP laptop with vista 64 bit with no problem,now i have a toshiba laptop with vista 64 bit and it also runs with no problems.

Same here. I do recommend an Nvidia chipset. In m experience their drivers work better with SL.

I have a 64 bit Vista desktop, no problems with SL whatsoever. The only thing I've had problems with on this system is Firefox (doesn't work properly, switched to Safari) and my modem drivers (which got fixed through googling).

But yes, like Screwtape says, I'd go with Nvidia. I think Nvidia cards are much more commonly supported SL-wise than ATI ones.

That site is not a good measure for SL. The minimums it has listed are way below what will work. Last time i used a 32meg video card in SL was 03, and by 04/05 everything was 64/128mb, so i don't see how SL runs on the stats that website gives.

That site says the min. SL specs are:

CPU: Pentium III
CPU Speed: 800mhz
RAM: 512mb
Video: 32mb (it says GeForce 2 or better)

Good luck running any version made after 2006 on those specs.

Last night, I logged in for the first time on my new Asus G51VX-RX05 running Vista 64 and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M and all I can say is WOW!!! I never dreamed SL looked like that. I appreciate the comments from those who took the time.
