I'm having trouble getting into second life, i have before, but it keeps telling me now every single time that i attempt to log-in that i have been disconnected from the region i was in. I really need help. i haven't been banned or whatever for any reason. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! I'm fairly new to this, so it may be some simple little mistake, but it doesn't seem like it.

Are you able to log into another region? You can type another region name at the login screen.

If you don't have the start location field on the login screen go up to Edit -- Preferences -- General and tick "Show start location on Login Screen."

A quiet sim to try would be Davenport.

If that doesn't help you might have a firewall or something blocking connection. Put SL in the trusted program category.

There are lots of other things it could be. Did you log out on your last time in SL or crash?

And welcome. We'll do our best to help, and soon you'll so experienced you'll be helping people, too.

Yes, if a university is your ISP they can block access to ports needed by SL. That happened to me once but it only lasted about a week and they changed it again. You may want to check with the university internet support staff on this.

Edited to add:

As Osprey indicated, there are still other possible reasons for the problem.

Did you clear your SL cache (under Preferences > Network)?
Did you clear the cache manually (someone else will have to describe as I've never done so)?
Did you try uninstalling SL completely and reinstalling it?

Another possibility might be that you have changed grids without being aware of it. (I think you would get a different error message for this, but still worth checking.) This is done from the login screen by pressing Ctrl+Shift+G, which opens the grid dropdown box. The main grid is called Agni, so by default Agni should be selected. If something else is selected, change it to Agni.

You can also try submitting a Support ticket thru this website if you are Basic, or phone/chat support if you are Premium. (However, you will likely get faster help from other residents here in the forum than thru a ticket.)
