first of all i want to say, i love the new forums. it appears you've fixed the "black text in Netscape" for new posts. thank you! here's my issues/wish list for the forums: 1. if i log in and wait a few minutes before clicking "View New Posts" it will not find any new posts. 2. need a easy way to search for any new messages from the last x days. ex. on the search page, leaving all the fields default except changing the "Search For Posts From..." to "yesterday". it currently fails if the keyword field is blank. 3. if someone posts a new message while i am browsing the forum, the new post does not show as unread. i know i have missed some threads this way. we need a per-thread read/unread cookie, which will stay unread until i actually view that thread. 4. uploading an avatar image doesn't seem to work. i had to put mine on a website and fetch it with the URL. 5. new posts to my subscribed threads get emailed to me even though i have the "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" option turned off. 6. can some posts be made "sticky" and stay at the top. who do we contact to suggest threads that should be made sticky? some suggestions are Wav upload requirements, Texture upload requirements, alpha texture how-to, shortcut key list bp

Quick and Dirty Answers

1. I know. The method of "mark messages read" is time/cookie based and not message based. After a bit of reasearch, I found a method that may change that, but I need to do several tests first. 2. That should be doable, but lower priority than #1 above. 3. See 1 4. should be fixed when 1 gets done. 5. This is because that gets overwritten with new threads. I'll look into it also. 6. Yes they can, but not easily. More important messages we post to the announcements. Sorry so short on the answers. -p

Yeah, I thought that was fixed for NS too, but occasionally I'll still get the black text.
Back to using exploder as much as possible, but even there I'm noticing a problem of another sort (besides the tendency to explode every 3 or 7 clicks) -- it's taking up a lot of processing power on the SL site. Without even touching the fireworks I've seen it zoom IEXPLORE.EXE up to and beyond 70% CPU in Task Manager's Processes list. I've yet to see it go below 21% anywhere on SL, no matter how long I idle. If I do mouse-over the fireworks, it zooms up to 96% and then very slowly slides back down (so I say -- I've been waiting 5 minutes so far, and it's going back and forth from 94 to 92 still). I don't have this issue on other webbased forums that I read/post to...
I wish there were an alternate way of reading and posting -- either a fullblown NNTP (preferred) or fully via email [1], but fully understand that any little forum problems are just that -- *little forum problems* and as such take a very low priority in the scheme of things. And it's worth it, to me -- a small headache here, in exchange for being allowed to play and test what appears to be a remarkable new game.
(It's been another 5 minutes -- I'm taking *long* pauses in my typing, multi-tasking, ya know -- iexplore.exe is still hovering at the 90-92% CPU level)
#!
[1] shoot, if it was allowed, I'd even take the time to code up a client reader/poster

i agree. i could do without the flash and fireworks header on the forums(sorry BBC, i know how you love the fireworks) . it's looks great, but significantly slows my computer, ruling out the option of having the forums open in the background while i'm playing in SL. if i had my wish, the forums would be flash-free, or have the option to turn the flash header off. bp

It's not a very good work around, but if you right click on the Flash animation, you can downgrade the quality level to "Low", which (on my Linux workstation) reduces CPU consumption from 60% to 40%. I'm not a Flash fan myself, but it's admittedly sort of difficult to build the navigation menus without using it.
Regarding NNTP: unfortunately there is no good forum software the supports email and NNTP export.
I haven't personally encounted the black on black text problem; it appears to be somewhat nondetermanistic, which makes it tricky to debug. Can you post which parts of the forums are doing that so that we can take a look?

i only need the top graphic link back to http://secondlife.com/i don't need any navigation menus when i'm in the forums, after all, THIS is where the good info is. =] as for the black text problem, it's Winter Solstice today, so it's working just fine. bp
