I had a little issue earlier today, was stuck after a tp, so I decided to relog. Now 2.5 hours latershe is still showing logged in to many of my friends, but that is impossible. because I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the emerald viewer and the official LL viewer, re booted my PC many times, and also reset my modem......I cannot get to the page to get live help, or file a ticket.....and of course calling billing, everything works perfect for them. Any ideas what to try next?....BTW after reinstalling the viewers I was able to log an alt in, so I know that is not an issue.

...so I decided to relog. Now 2.5 hours latershe is still showing logged in to many of my friends. You're ghosted and the region you were in likely needs to be restarted. Any idea where you were when you logged out last? edit: or if you can get a friend to map you and TP to where you're stuck, post the region name. _____________________

Twice I've seen avatar "ghosts" -- an avatar that is not really logged in, but the sim thinks they are there.
To test an avatar to see if they are a ghost, someone else should try to walk through them. If they're real, they are physical and you can bump/move them at the hip level. If they are a "ghost", you walk through them and cannot bump/move them no matter what. In both cases the only fix was a sim reboot. If your avatar is ghosted on an offshore sim, have a friend message the sim owner asking for a reboot. If your avatar is ghosted on the mainland, I recommend having someone with a premium account putting in the request for a sim reboot. Alternatively having whoever's land you're stuck on, place the request. |

yes, this was the problem, sim owner IM'd me after I had been able to log in, asked if I were ok, because to him I was still showing on his sim......funny thing was, I was still in his shop 2 hours after LL allowed me to log in, and happily playing in my sandbox. He had to derened my avi in his shop for it to disappear. Thanks for the advice, because it has happened again this morning, and I cannot remember where I logged out last night

........... To test an avatar to see if they are a ghost, someone else should try to walk through them. If they're real, they are physical and you can bump/move them at the hip level. If they are a "ghost", you walk through them and cannot bump/move them no matter what. .......... That's probably a good way to tell if anyone is ghosted but it's not 100% accurate. There are viewers (and I believe a debug setting in the LL veiwer too) that allows you to set your avatar to phantom. I know Emerald has this option. I use that "test" in addition to trying to IM the person. Sometimes you'll get the user offline message when you IM.........a good tip off that the avi is ghosted. You can also pull up the profile and see if the option to teleport is greyed out (an offline avi will have that field greyed out.........but preferrences can be set to disallow that option too). There is really no 100% foolproof way of knowing someone is ghosted unless that person has told you that they are. But using common sense (such as the avi being in one spot without any movement or stuck in a pose and reacts to nothing plus the above tests) you can get a pretty good idea that they are. LL has little problems with restarting sims.......I believe ghosted avatars are something that they want removed as much as the ghosted person wants it removed. I've had very good success getting a mainland sim restarted for ghosts in the past (like a 100% success rate). As a side that I think everyone should do, especially if they tend to get ghosted a lot, is to create an alt (if they do not have one already) and allow that alt to show you on the map (called "mapping you" ![]() |
