Hello. I noticed that when avp.exe *32 shows 50 on the cpu, second life suddenly slows down to a crawl until avp.exe shows 0. I know avp.exe belongs to Kaspersky and I don't want to disable it while using second life as that leaves me open to risks over the internet. Anybody know how to keep avp.exe from slowing down second life when it does its tasks? It isn't good when you suddenly drop from 50fps to 4fps for a minute or so.

I've been seeing it since the 1.21.xx client. It's what drove me to look for alternative clients until the latest 1.22RC. While the RC hasn't directly fixed the FPS drop, the faster loading textures that came as a result of it have lessened the pain. (^_^)
See my adventures in FPS loss in the link below, and vote for it if it's what you're seeing as well. (^_^)y https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9650 _____________________

Nah, seems to only happen when Kaspersky is doing something. Ever since I enabled fast alpha, the fps has increased a bit but that still doesn't stop the sudden drop of fps when Kaspersky does a task in the background. I will check out the release candidate viewer to see how it is. for now, I will post my spec:
Win XP Pro 64-bit SP2 Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition overclocked to 3.01Ghz. 6GB DDR2 PC6400 RAM GeForce 9600 GSO with 768MB DDR3 3M DSL connection It doesn't seem to do it when I am using Windows 7 beta on another drive with the beta of Kaspersky for Win 7 in it. Updated: Tried the release candidate and it is doing the same thing. Every once in awhile avp.exe *32 would show 50 on cpu usage and second life gets bogged down until it goes back down to 0. Still trying to figure out what it is doing that is making it do that. _____________________

Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition overclocked to 3.01Ghz. Here's a trick, go to the task manager and set the processor affinity of Secondlife for one of your processor cores and then set the affinity for yyou antivirus to the other. |

Also, see if there's a way to stop your antivirus from repeatedly scanning your SL cache folder. Might be called "realtime scanning" or something or other.. |

You have to set it after each and every time you launch the client app. On my own system, I haven't seen any gain from using it (Dual AMD FX-74). (^_^)y

I tried setting the affinity but it appears to be making no difference. I am also going to the Kaspersky forum talking to them about it and trying their suggestions which is not working. The only way to stop the sudden slow downs so far for me is to disable kaspersky which would then leave you open to attacks. I'm still posting about it on the Kaspersky forum.

Is there a Kaspersky log of what it's doing? Does it do this "use a whole core" thing if SL isn't running?
