Hi all,

I love to watch movies in SL. Its fun to do with friends and heckle the movie :)

I want desperately to be able to watch these movies with one of my best friends, but he uses linux and is unable to watch the movies purchased from places like Lightening Video.

He can see when we do youtube videos and the like.

Any ideas why he can't see the movie with the rest of us?
If you need more information about his setup let me know and I'll ask him and come back.

Thanks for the help!

I'm going to hazard to guess you're having issues with QuickTime movies. If they're running Ubuntu or Debian, the key packages to make sure are installed are w32codecs, and all gstreamer plugins especially gstreamer-pitfdll. Best place to test is on the big screen in Torley's island "Here."

Hope this helps!

Thank you for reply to my question.

I have forwarded your advice on to my friend and we'll see what happens!

Cheers!

Hi again,

I copied and pasted your suggestions to my friend and he tells me that he already has done these things and still can't see these videos.

Are there any other suggestions you might have for him?

Thanks again for your help!

You might bounce it off the user forums or mailing lists of the distribution they use specifically. Codec support works somewhat differently between distros.

Do these links work for anyone else? They don't work for me.

I think this kind of link generally doesn't work here.
