Every time I try to login my viewer loads fine untill it get to the "loading quicktime" message. Then it crashes hard and closes. Anyone know what quicktime does? and why this crash might be happening? I use an ATI X300 card and have had no issues in the past so not sure whats changed - nothing in my setup that I know of anyway.

Quicktime controls the video aspects of SL. You might try updated to the latest version of Quicktime. No clue why you would be crashing, but an update just might do the trick. I know that in the latest version of the Windlight viewer, at least version 7.4 of the Quicktime software is required. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

Uninstall both SL and QT, clearing both cache folders, then run a registry cleaner, and reinstall fresh copies of each.

I THINK (and don't quote me on this) that SL uses QuickTime in streaming video links. Anyone showing a movie or TV on their land is using QuickTime. There was a very bad security issue with an earlier version of QT that allowed people to track back to your IP address, and hence to your system. Apple has fixed this with a new version of QT, but LL alerted everyone of this and strongly STRONGLY suggests downloading the newest version of SL as well to your computer. Like AWM said, you'll probably need to delete the entire directory at
C:\Documents and Settings\{your name}\Application Data\Second Life\Cache
and reinstall fresh from the website here with the latest version.

Thanks for your help everyone - i have resolved the issue. Quicktime was somehow interfereing with SL. I had already removed and reinstalled it with no change, but I found the article below and followed it. I removed quicktime, manually deleted the system folder files, cleaned the registry, restarted, and reinstalled. SL lives again For future reference the procedure is at the link below. Thanks to all who offered advice, and to Shaun from support who gave this a good shot and didnt drop the ball on me. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
