I am the loving owner of a Toshiba Satellite laptop computer. However, the graphics card is an S3 SuperSavage/IXC 1179, which I understand (and have found myself) is incompatible with SL. Is it possible for me to get a better graphics card for my little Satellite? If so, how could I do that? Right now I am at home and using my parents' computer, but in a month I leave for college and would also have to leave SL.

I don't think that it's possible to upgrade a laptop video card, unfortunately. (If I'm wrong, I'll happily accept correction, tho)

Right now I am at home and using my parents' computer, but in a month I leave for college and would also have to leave SL. Fraid it's not very likely. Laptops don't take graphics upgrades well. There's really no solution. On the bright side, if you have any PC at all which is modernish, I pointed out in another thread a workable SL graphics card can be had for $37 or so. I would imagine around a 500mhz P3 w/ 256mb of ram and a GeForce2 MX 64mb would run SL acceptably well. Certainly nowhere near recommended specs, and would not be doing "good" by any definition, but survivable. Those specs aren't too hard to meet these days with a couple hundred $ investment. In fact, the same place I mentioned with the $37 GeForce 2 MX has a "back to school special" PC which is an Athlon XP 1500 w/ 128mb of ram for $199. Get a bit of extra ram in it, and put the GF2 MX in there, and i'd say you have a pretty good SL setup for $300 or thereabouts.

Wow, quick replies! Thanks, that's about what I expected. Unfortunately, being a college student, I think another computer is a little beyond my budget right now. Thanks for the info.
