Has anyone been able to use windows 7 yet with SL. I have just finished installling it, and it will not let me run SL.

it says my graphics card is driver is not up to date. However, while "system requirement" lists a windows 945 chipset, I have a windows 965 chipset with the latest driver.

Am I going to have to reinstall Vista, or am I missing something.

Well you are using the worst possible graphics set for SL, an integrated Intel Chipset.

You are lucky you can access SL at all.

It's an issue with the drivers. Intel drivers aren't well supported by SL. Add to that, the Intel drivers for Win7 are probably beta, considering Win7 is a release candidate. Put those two together and you have a recipe for potential disaster. (>_<;)

Really... There's gotta be a sticky made on this. >> Don't run Alpha/Beta/RC software unless you want to be involved in the development/debug process. You'll only run into grave disappointment otherwise. << Each is unfinished software with little to no QC, debugging, or warranty of operation/compatibility. (=_=)y

Check Windows Update to make sure you really do have the latest drivers. If that doesn't help, you can probably use the Vista drivers that worked.

I have thought about it, and much as I would like to help windows7 out, not on this machine and have downgraded to vista.

Mabye someday I can reload 7. Lots of cool things, much faster, and more stable.

ah, well.

Most of the Vista drivers do work in Windows 7, so there is always that option.

As an aside for all you Windows 7 testers out there: According to an email I got from Technet: "On June 1, 2009, the PC you’re using to test the Beta will begin shutting down every two hours."

That is in exactly one week.

Just a heads-up for you all.

I've been told the RC won't be doing that until next March.

If it does start doing that before I can buy a copy of Windows 7, I can go back to XP x64, no big deal.

yeah, I took a closer look at the e-mail I got. The date it gave pertained to the Beta version. The RC version will drop dead on June 1, 2010.

Good catch! :)

I'm running SL perfectly fine with Windows 7, 64 bit. Have 4 gigs ram and a 9800 GT card.

It's working very well for me on Windows 7 x64 8GB RAM and an Nvidia 8800GT.

Now I'd really love an x64 viewer. The viewer runs out of memory and crashes in about ten minutes with 512M draw distance in really detailed sims like Avaria and Yumix.

You know? That's true, ain't it? Bloody thing can only get better. (O_O)

I wonder... What's the current percentage of the NEW PC market (heck, even Macs) that are 64Bit right now? Actually... Ain't all new Macs 64 bit now? (o.o)

Same issue here

Running W7 64bit RC1
ATI Radeon x1950 Pro video card, latest drivers.

I installed the default Vista drivers, and windows update automatically gave me the newest drivers from Microsoft. SL won't boot at all, giving me the driver error

I can run steam games like Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead fine on my setup, SL is the only thing that won't work.

ATI does not have Windows 7 drivers for the X1xxx cards. The only suggestion I have is to install the Vista drviers for it, and do not let Windows 7 update them.

I was able to get SL to run under Windows 7 (32-bit) using a Radeon 9600 by changing the display driver to standard VGA(*), then installing the Windows Vista 8.12 drivers downloaded from ATI. Newer drivers may work on a newer card.

(* This step may not be necessary, I did it after the ATI 9.3 drivers would not install. The 9.3 drivers never would install.)

I had SecondLife running just fine on a low-end Vaio with Integrated Intel chipset on the Win7 RC. I did have to go out and install the latest 64bit drivers for Vista to do it though. I just went to Intel's site to download them. The Win7 beta drivers won't run in SL even if you tell it not to check the hardware.

Problems whit Fps and Windows 7 - Beta
06-04-2009 09:40
I am running windows 7 beta, the newest Build. 7100
My Computer is a Dell XPS laptop whit 3 gbs of Ram, Nvidia 7900 Grafiks card, whit a Dual 2000 Mhz cores, High definication Sound card.

I run Steam, i run Eve Online, i RUN BattlestationPaccific, i run every other game perfekt, yea in some new games i have to lower settins but i run it fine.

Whit Secondlife viewer i get around 0.1 to 45 FPS, usaly a Steady FPS is around 20 til 40, but suddenly Everything drops down to 0.1 and Game either Crashes or logs me out, if i wait around 5-10 minutes the FPS might go up again, this is sadly happeninge a lot some times for me and other times i maby happends once every one houre, its werry strange. but when it happends i cant play at all.

So what have i Tryed.
First of all i thought it might be a grafix problem, so i tryed swicthing from Mobile drivers to Real Drivers, whit the Driverrs Heaven unlocker, wich makes other games go faster and better.

I tryed lowering settings for SL to Low, problem still Comes.

I got a 20 mb / 2mb ADSL line, so tryed raising the Bandwith to around 10mb and i have tryed Raising the Cache to 1000mb insted of the Normal 500mb, does nothing, still same problem.

Tryed enabeling Dual Threds under the Advanced Menu, does Nothing, well actult it raised my Fps whit around 5, but still drops again.

I have tryed opening a Custom port in my Router and SL, to see if was a Port issue.
Does Nothing.

I Put SL and SL voice to TRUE under my Firewall settings, wich did get the viewer to load things much faster since its not blocked in the firewall anymore.

So stuff loads faster and FPS is good but stille drops to 0.1 and game Crashes randomly.

Tryed Disableing ALL Firewall and Virus Settings / programs, wile running SL, did nothing.

At first i thought the problems was whit SL voice, aka my Sound driver, so tryed indstalling drivers for Sound Card, Did nothing.

Tryed running game whit out having Voice on, Did nothing.

Tryed Clearing Cache everytime i oppend SL wich made the load timer of the game go up so only thing that did was making the game load much slower.

So i hae been trying to figure out what this problem was, i even tryed Reformating my Computer and Indstalled everything again, and SL still Acts UP.

So what i have been notecing was whit the CTRL ALT 1 - Statistic bar you can see the FPS wich is usaly high, but then drops and everything lags, i have tryed to look at the others things and what was happening when the game startet to lag and i have Noticed that the "PING SIM" Goes up when my FPS starts to lag, at one point the ping SIM was at 16000. so theres a consistent there, but i cannot figure out why it does that.

i even tryed changeing the router to another to see if that helped, i am lost here.

Normal ping to the sim is around 180 to 250 for me.

Sim FPS is all from 30 to 46 and Physics FPS is around 28 to 46.5

I dont have any othere programs running in the background as of Bt, or IE, or something like that.

I am lost here now, i have no clue to what the problem could be.
i am hoping some other person had the same problem and found out what to do.

I might be and Windows 7 problem, so hooping someone found a solutsion, becous i a have to pick bewten Windows 7 and SL, well SL wont win.

problem is you have a laptop. have you tried going into the bios and changing your cpui settings there? or tried to change your power settings. as with most laptops, when the cpu heats up it slows down to avoid over heating. try to change all of your setting to performance
and check the overall temps of your laptop

It sounds like you havent read my post, otherwise you woulden have written that i think

My laptop does not Overheat,, and has a Watchdog on it if it does it will automaticly shut down, and if you read what i wrote you would noticed that its ONLY in SL i have a problerm, Sl uses like 500mb to 1gb of avalible 3gbs of ram, and uses around 60%-80% of 100% CPU depending on where you are in the game.

Other games run perfekt, and Eve Online wich has just as many useres as SL, runs fines to, and are prettyer and more grafix depended than SL.
