I only see boxes for the special characters used in like Pics. I installed Arial Unicode, thats the only problem that search brought up concerning this.
Still black boxes. Any ideas?

LL really only supports the basic ascii or english unicode set, most of anything that you cannot type by hitting a button on your keyboard is out of bounds
bout the only suggestion i might have is installing language packs, and it probally wont do you much good

I had the same problem with my older computer and I always wondered why I couldn't see the other character sets. With my new Dell, I don't have that problem but I'm not sure why. With both systems, I installed XP Pro from scratch -- with no other language packs (that I know of).
Would it have something to do with graphic cards and drivers? I used to have an ATI X1600, now I have dual NVIDIA 8800GTs in SLI mode.

On Windows systems, the SL viewer looks for this list of fonts to fill in extended characters:
MSGOTHIC.TTC;gulim.ttc;simhei.ttf;ArialUni.ttf
