I have discovered, to my dismay, that 1 meter in SL is not the same as 1 meter in Max,which is where I do most of my offline object visualization. Could anyone explain this phenomenon so I can make the appropriate adjustments in Max to compensate.
Thx 4 Ur time

From: someone Originally posted by Jack Miller I believe he is referring to 3ds Max(3D Studio Max) Yeah, I gathered, but unless Zoli is a secret Linden and really bad at keeping secrets, how is he moving stuff from Max to SL? Unless he is building stuff in Max, then just manually transfering the dimensions to objects in SL, by hand. But then what does it matter as long as '1' unit is a constant in all dimensions? "Let's see, I am n units tall, so I'll make this 1.5 * n units tall", etc etc. I don't understand.

Actually, I am transposing from max to SL by hand,, as it were,,, but it's not an issue cause it turns out I was fulla crap,, I get confused sometimes w/ cylinders (Daimeter:Radius) & I had some measurements off... I hate it when that happens & U don't catch it till U triple check,, & suddenly U notice the taste of your own foot N your mouth

I do all my mock up in Rhino 3d (a nurbs CAD tool), and convert to SL by hand, and the units are exact.
Cylinders and other rounded objects are not exact however, because they have to be converted into a low poly model. So at some points a cylinder may be wider or narrower than you expect. this is especially evident with cubes with cylinder type hollow.

Am I the only person here that really just hates the way a cyl cut out in a cube is aligned by default?
