So I havent been in SL for about 2 years now and im just dying to get back in. My laptop that i have now doesnt have the right graphics card, and my desktop is having issues getting online. So im looking into purchasing a new pc. I really dont care either desktop or laptop, but i dont want to spend thousands of dollars either, something reasonable. Can someone lead me in the right direction, or tell me a good pc that will be compatable with SL...thanks!

What i did was take down the specs for SL and went to my local computer shop and had them build me one. It worked out cheaper than getting a ready made one

The published system requierments are a bit out of date, and on the low side. Ignore the minimun requirements, they're useless.
The graphics card is really important. Get a fast Nvidia card. A Geforce 9600, 9800 or GTS250 will be great. Avoid Intel graphics controllers. They're horrible for SL.
2GB of memory for Windows XP, 3GB for Vista.
A reasonably fast (at least 2Ghz, more is better) dual or quad core CPU. Don't buy something with a low end CPU like a Celeron or Sempron. No single core CPUs.

In the $600 range, this would probably be my pick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227134That's just from a quick scan of one website, though. If you shop around, there may well be better deals to be had.

Check out: http://www.googlebb.magicmicro.com/pricelist.asp?cid=88&gclid=CP_02dS255gCFRwDagod-3wrcwI just put together a gamer rig for a friend that is pretty high end........$700 USD including shipping. Start with a barebones and add to the system what you want, even the OS. I would stick with Intel (just an old prejugdice against AMD that is personall) dual or quad core, 2 gigs or higher clock speed, 3 gigs DDR2 800 meg (or faster) RAM, 500 watt PS, and nVidia 8000 series or higher graphics card. Hard drive and optical drive of your choice....same with card readers. You do all that on a form you fill out using drop downs to choose the availaibe hardware in the catagories. Micro Magic will assemble the rig for you and install any operating system for a nominal charge. I'm sure you can get a top notch computer put together for less than 600 USD. However, the person I did this for did not need a monitor.......that may up the total another 150 or so if you need one.

Ooh, $77,000. Sign me up. I'll take three. That's one for my master, one for my dame, and one for the little boy who lives down the lane.
