I have an island in SL, College Life - secondlife://College%20Life/97/75/39 I am streaming in the Metanomics TV via their kiosk. I have the stream set to the correct address ( http://streams.slcn.tv/metanomics.mov) and I can see the movie when I open the URL in a browser. I have the media type set to Movie (video/quicktime) Others too can see it when they come to my land. I have my SL client set to play streaming music and media - and to do it automatically (all three boxes ticked). BUT I CAN'T SEE THE MOVIE! No matter what I try (and I've tried a while!). I have the latest version of Quicktime. I just can't work it out. The media texture is a grey - when I come within range it goes black and tells me that it is playing the movie - but I can't see or hear it. If I press "srop" on the movie controls it goes back to grey - so it's trying to do something... I'm running Windows Vista Premium 64 bit. I've tried this with Firewall on and off. I've stopped McAfee - makes no difference. Can anyone help. Many, many thanks.

Can you watch any videos inworld?
Can you watch any videos on your land?
Is the problem just with the Metanomics kiosk showing the Metanomics stream?
Is the stream url you posted here cut and pasted or did you retype it when you posted?
If someone else has a Metanomics stream on their parcel, can you see the stream there?
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime?
Have you tried more than one version of Second Life?
Have you tried turning you computer, modem, and router completely off and back on?
You might try unintalling QT and installing QuickTime Alternative.

Excellent list of questions - let me go through them in order... From: SuezanneC Baskerville Can you watch any videos inworld? No looks like it's a problem everywhere
Can you watch any videos on your land? No - see above
Is the problem just with the Metanomics kiosk showing the Metanomics stream? No - see above
Is the stream url you posted here cut and pasted or did you retype it when you posted? Cut and paste
If someone else has a Metanomics stream on their parcel, can you see the stream there? No - and others can see the stream on my land - only me who cannot
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime? Many times!
Have you tried more than one version of Second Life? Yep - same thing
Have you tried turning you computer, modem, and router completely off and back on? Yep. No difference
You might try unintalling QT and installing QuickTime Alternative. Tried that too. Looks like it's a problem with me. I've tried it on my work machine and don't gat video there either - it's XP but it is running behind a corporate firewall... I've tried it on my second PC - also running XP, no joy there either. I know I have all the correct switches thrown in Options - am losing will to live....

I was thinking about you the other day - sorry it's still not working for you, but I'm glad you posted again.
Just grasping at straws ;-D
Could the network slider ever be set so low it stops movies from loading? I know you have "show streaming movies" ticked, but is there any difference if you untick "Show automatically"? Can you see webpages?
It sounds like what happens when a movie is too big to stream - so maybe your pipe has been throttled somehow and is choking the stream.
At least I'm bumping your issue even if my ideas are stupid.

Thanks for the input Osprey. I think I have the cause now. After much mucking about I have video working on my land that I can see - if I log in from my old machine. It's Vista 64 and quicktime that seem to be at the root of this - they just don't work together with Second Life. I'll have another trawl through the web - others must have this same problem - if any of you know a Vista guru please point him or her my way.
Many, many thanks for all the helpfull contributions along the way - if I can find the answer I'll post it back here.
Thanks again CCN Yifu.
