This is just a tip actually. I noticed Hikaru say that she often gets asked how to stop avatars from looking at the ground so much, and doesn't know herself.

One of the coolest features in SL is that the avatar head looks where the mouse pointer is pointing. Give it a try, if you rotate the mouse around the screen your avatar head should follow to look at it. :)

If your avatar is looking at the ground, try putting the mouse pointer near the middle of the screen.

to expand on it a little you 'look' directly at anything you alt+click to switch focus to... so you can pretty directly control about where yer avatar is giving their attention simply by selecting it as such.

Also, in first person (aka mouselook) view, yer avatar looks roughly in whatever direction you do, which can be kind of cool in some situations too

Well if you alt click on something you'll look at it but if you just wiggle your mouse pointer around without anything selected, your head will follow the direction you're pointing it in.

and when listening/chatting to other AVs...

pressing the Tab key will make your AV look at the person talking... this seems to work in groups too - your view will shift to the chatter... not sure how that works in mouselook :) anyone?

Tab makes your entire body face the person though. Someone speaking near you though will make your avatar look at the person momentarily.

Tab makes you look at who or what you were last last alt+clicked looking at - and it only turns your head - not your body.

We use it quite often when modeling for photography - you hit tab to snap your head direction back to looking at the photographer.

If tab now turns your body, its a new feature - or one that I just happened to never experience. :p

No, neither tab nor alt-zoom turn your body, which is the way it's always been.

sometimes it seems to get stuck, and my av will keep looking at the ground no matter where my mouse is. The only way i could fix it was to relog. This problem doesn't seem to happen as often anymore though. :)
