I decided to go on a little adventure a few days ago after I lost a few prims under the ground in another sim... I turned off ground rendering and looked around a bit... I noticed alot of objects are just sitting beneath a ton of our SL mountains -- even a few lost Linden created objects.

Made me wonder... Is there any system in place to eliminate these objects lost under ground? And if there isn't... in say, a few years... won't there be a significant # of lost prims to effectivly reduce preformance of sims?

No, because we will get an object tracking system in 1.1 I think.
Even if its not in the next version we will eventually get it since the Lindens have claimed it is planned.
Sometimes I wish I could fall asleep for a couple of years and play SL version 2.0 afterwards =)

I went up to 500 meters the other day, and I must have IMed a half-dozen people about the existence and location of their high flying prims.
