Hey guys. I upgraded my PC to an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video card a few months ago, and ever since I haven't been able to log onto SecondLife. As soon as I open the program, it tells me that I need to update my drivers, which are already fully updated. Nothing I do can get me to the log-in screen. Anybody know the problem? I'm running the newest version of SL and I'm using Windows XP.

You could try uinstall vid card driver, install these ones , have been using them for over a week now and they work pretty nice, normally beta ones wont even start SL in rare occourances. one im using right now 174.74 beta driver; http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_174.74.htmlRemember uninstall the ones you have before installing new, or SL may bite you with "out of date drivers", we all seem to run into it.

Uninstall, as in remove the drivers completely and re-install using the CD? Or just roll them back? Because I don't have the driver CD here with me at school, I guess I'd have to wait a couple of weeks.

With SL, you have to uninstall every time you upgrade the graphics drivers .. otherwise you risk getting that message. It checks version info that might not be rewritten if you install over the previous drivers. .

Go to nVidia's web site and search for drivers using your card version number. You will see the drivers available for your card.....generally speaking, you want the latest (but make sure you understand if the driver is beta or a released driver......not knocking beta drivers, but beta means it's in the testing stage and not deemed ready for release. Just so you know that if you get a beta driver you may experience more bugs). Download the driver to your hard drive (save it). Then uninstall the current driver you are using......your computer monitor will still work but it will probably look like crap. Restart your computer and then install the new driver.......it will require another restart. Your done except for putting all those icons you had on your desktop back where you want them and maybe some other graphics settings you may have for you preferrences.
You do not need the CD.........in fact even if you install drivers from a CD you probably still need to check the web site for more current drivers. I have yet to install a driver that came on a CD that was actually the most current. There's always new ones.........sometimes weekly.

I have an 8800GT so I've went to war with the drivers a handful of times, but won each battle. Tallo, don't use the CD that your video card manufacturer gave you to install drivers. Theres a 90% chance they were outdated when your video card was released. goto http://www.nvidia.com , click DOWNLOAD DRIVERS fill in the information Newest version is 169.21 for XP , not sure what it is for vista. But there you can get the latest version. 1.Install new drivers, reboot your PC. 2.Open SL but DONT log in, 3.Clear your cache and browser memory in preferences. 4.CLOSE SL, 5.Open SL again (it will have to load for a bit because you cleared cache) 6.Try to log in now. Post back here on the outcome so we can further assist you. Good luck.

Whenever you uninstall drivers, always run a Registery Cleaner, this will remove dead and somewhat outdated entries/profiles for bygone drivers.
