ripple water disabled?

The ripple water checkmark is disabled. Is this normal? I'm running a Geforce FX 5600 Ultra (128 MB onboard). Also, the client only lets me choose up to 64 MB on my graphics card, even though I have 128 MB. Can I override?

Ripple water doesn't work on GeForce cards, so they just disabled it for us  Hopefully they'll get past it and turn that back on someday. |

Did they break it? Ripple water was working on my Geforce card a couple weeks ago; it was just too much of a performance hog to leave it on.

It doesn't work for the FX cards. When I had my Ti 4800 in, it wasn't greyed out.

Right, ripple doesn't work correctly on the FX cards. We can fix this but are pretty consumed with 1.2 features right now.
paulie: you can't select a setting greater than 64MB for your video card because you only have 256MB of system RAM. If you upgrade your RAM to 512MB you'll be able to use the 128MB setting and will also get generally better performance running SL.

Oh No! This is BAD news.. I was having LOTS of graphic problems on my radeon and was told with them I should turn most grahic fearures for stabilities sake. I bust bought a GEFORCE FX 5950 Ultra w256mb ram and I will wtill have trouble? Oh well, I Guess I'll have to wait |

The 5950 won't support water ripple (a dubious feature at best) until they fix it. AFAIK, it supports all the other features, and is an extremely high-performance card to boot.

Thanks for the tip, Ian. So, if I had a graphics card with 256 MB video ram, would I need 1 GB of system ram in my pc to enable that video ram? lol.
On the Geforce front, if I was buying a Geforce right now, I would probably get the Geforce FX 5900 SE. Nvidia just released this "value" card. It uses lower clocked video ram than the full Geforce FX 5900, but the ram has less latency than the ram on the full 5900. In benchmarks, this "value" card kept up with and in some cases surpassed the performance of the full 5900. For $219, its a tough deal to beat. However, you can pick up a full 5900 for only $230. Sweet. The 5950 Ultra is the newest toy, but the reviews I've read say that the bit of extra performance doesnt justify the BIG price.
I've got an FX 5600 I bought right before Nvidia brought out the 5700! D'OH! The treadmill never stops...

Does the ripple water bug affect the GeForce 6800 series the same way as the FX series? I want to upgrade a Ti4800 SE, but won't do it if I give up ripple water...

NV40 cards are available with 6800 and 6800 GT versions on the shelves at places like Best Buy and Frys. Pricewatch even shows 6800 Ultras available, but with price-gouging $50-over-retail sticker-shock.
