So second life's been around what, almost 10 years now.. and linden labs STILL can't figure out how to make sims smooth/non-laggy, to the point where you can actually walk and fly without "rubber banding" back to where you started from, when there's high usage (alot of people in sim) Pretty sad.. all these changes and you can't even make the sims smooth :/ I usually check second life once every 6-8 months and see how it does, and it's really sad when i login and each time, the same old bull..s*** and nothing's improved

Sim Lag

Its easy to get peed off with it, I have had friends with terrible lag and I havent, its not always SL though it can be our equipment, our Internet providers, and even outside equipment. My phone Company was to blame for a lot of my problems they just never admited it, was an out side contractor that found the Service providers equipment had deteriated and I even went along to help replace switches and wires. was and made a masive difference after. There are also so many scripted items, wich can eat up Ram and there is no way this can be controlled at present.
Oh well what do I know, apart from I dont kill as many Lindens as I used to, think I understand their problems a bit more now. One day all will be perfect, thats when I will be lying in my coffin.
And thats all I have to say on that subject

Is it any better than Second Life?

it's not our connections, sims with HIGH avatar count on it run slow.. don't even respond to inputs to move or walk or fly, just stand there, and when you do move or walk or fly, you sling-shot back to where you started from. It's only on busy sims, all busy sims. It's a performance problem server-side on SL, it's been doing this for YEARS, i've been on at least 20 different ISP's since 2000 and SL always has done this on all ISP's of all speeds, and all the different computers i've upgraded through the years, it's a general problem with second life and they've yet to address/fix/resolve it. edit: Fixed typo

its both. In some cases its not LL's fault its peoples connection, poor internet speed, or poor hardware. Like for instance one of my good friends has a really nice computer only problem is that they have no graphics card so they lag city (got a chip set ). Once they put a cheap $40 dollar graphics card there sl lag went down SIGNIFICANTLY so it is not always sl. On the latter side LL has had the same servers since the begging not once have they done a overhaul of ALL the servers which is what they need to do. the servers are old and being pushed to the max but of course LL has the standard complacency of most gaming businesses "don't fix it til you ABSOLUTELY have to. Basically they cheap they rake in millions yet they won't put the right amount of funds into new equipment and better trained staff/more staff. People like me who have excellent internet connection and excellent computers would be virtually lag free if they would just close sl down for a week TOPS and overhaul the servers. Yes people would be pissy that they cant get there SL fix but wouldn't it be worth it if you didnt lag and everything was new?

I'm no SL historian but I was under the impression that LL opened SL up to the public in 2003........that makes SL 6 years old, or 7 years at the most. I only mentioned that since you eluded to that nearly 10 years old twice.
You need to come visit more than once every 6 months or so though. At the moment SL is having some pretty heavy lag issues.......yes, it's grid wide as far as I can tell. Hoever, I would not say it's unbearable. I don't "rubberband" much unless I'm crossing a sim border.......that's not to say I haven't experienced more than the normal amount of that problem. But, if you had come visited two months ago I think you would have found a pretty lag free SL to explore. We got a server upgrade about a month ago........that's when the lag began getting worse. And right now we are in the middle of another maintenance episode.........should be completed by day's end tomorrow. It might fix the problem........who knows til it's completed. In case you haven't noticed SL has come a long way since you first joined...........quite a long way. And, since you are an old hand (older than me for sure) you should know the road to any progress is seldom smooth.
Maybe next May or June, when you come to visit again, SL will be more to your liking.

Maybe next time you stop by you wont be in the middle of a grid wide server upgrade rollout. Everything is laggy during these times. A twice a year sampling is not enough to gauge on.

Well grid-wide update or not, they've had more than enough time to make SL stable and smooth under ALL OPERATING CONDITIONS, the problem is that they haven't IMPROVED IT YET. Also i have a 3800mhz Intel I7, and a nvidia GTS-250 1gb card, while not the best, it's not low-end either. And i have friends that have the top of the line cards and they still lag, it's not computer hardware, it's completely something to do with LL's issues and their failure to resolve this by now. And i'm on verizion fios 50mb/20mb, connection isn't an issue, either. I've tried over 20 different clients available online, and they all exibit the same issue. Linden Labs! Please wakeup and make your s--- work right! And twice a year or so is fine, i log in every few months, look, SL still slow/laggy/craptastic, leave, try again later. *yawn* same old issues.
