Hello people!
I'm having a big problem right now. When I turn voice chat on I can hear everyone but I can't talk. My microphone works on the Windows recorder and on MSN, but not on SL. I tried it with three different microphones, the one being part of a headset I bought from the site affiliated to SL... So now I really don't know what to do... If anyone could help me, I'd be grateful.
Thanks! Angelfa

Here you go hope this might help you. Go into edit/preferences then click your voice chat tab. Then click on 'device settings' Choose your device dont just go by 'default' and then make sure your 'input level' is at the appropriate level when you talk you will see a bar next to the slider to go up and down if SL is hearing you. Hope this helps. Picture included to show the screen to make it easier.

I have the same problem. I can hear everyone, and I can hear my mic in my headphones (albeit somewhat faintly), but I can't seem to talk. My "dot" never turns "green" over my head. I see the green bars the previous poster described when I run the setup wizard, so SL seems to hear me -- but no one else does. I get this under either Vista or XP. These days running under XP Home. Using a USB headset.

VOICE CHAT was working but IM killed it...

Now, I cannot get the microphone working again using the preference settings, although the microphone continues to work well with every other app EXCEPT SL, and the XP voice hardware test wizard shows the mic working as it should.
I am running the latest XP Release Candidate. When I attempted to contact a friend by using the IM feature and clicking "CALL" it shut off the mic and I have not been able to get SL to respond to the mic since. Prior to that VOICE CHAT worked beautifully.
Also, when I clicked the "CALL" button SL attempted to create a "DISK" on my HD. I don't know what that is about, and didn't find out about it until the next boot, but it causes a "Can't find Windows disk" error msg when my desktop is displaying. I have to use chkdsk to remove the pseudo disk. BUt, that doesn't make the mic work again.
I'm calling this an IM/Voice chat bug in the Release Candidate.
