I logged out and back in and now that upload textures and animations button is completely grayed out.

try rebooting your router and/or modem. Maybe SL's servers are not getting what it needs to confirm that you have an uplink to upload anything. You might try clearing your cache since you would need to log off anyway.

I tried all that before I posted. Actually I did receive that asset server message shortly after too. oh well, I logged out. I'll go back in maybe it cleared up.
