I don't completely understand something, but I have an idea why it's happening (although I could be wrong, and please tell me if I am).

I live in the U.S. and at about 5 PM every weekday & on the weekends in the evening, more often than not, I can't log-in.

The message will say log-in failed. I just wonder if it's because there are to many people in game already, and it's like there isn't any room for me. If that's the case, then why did Linden Labs get all excited and happy awhile back, saying they've broken the million member mark, when they had to know they can't support many more than 50,000 plus people in game at once.

50,000~ish SL members in the game, is a tiny fraction of the 1,000,000 members they say they have. I can understand not being about to support the full load of a million players at once, but SL can't even remotely hold, let's say, 80,000 players at once. That's really sad.

Now if I were a paying customer, I'd really be pissed off if I couldn't get in because of an SL overload of such a low number of players . That's the honest to goodness, exact reason why I haven't upgraded my account like I've wanted to.

And to anybody that says, 50,000 or so players in game at once, is a staggering feat, and that whoever (Linden Labs???) should get a big pat on the back for it. I simply don't agree.

It's an age old problem in SL. The asset servers choke under a heavy concurrency. It's not your computer.........it's simply the servers can't handle what's there so log ins fail.

But, you do not know what SL is all about...........I can tell by your assessment of 50K users online being so small. Yes, compared to any other online video game that is pretty low. But those other games do not have the vastly different objects in the world of which probably 95% is user created. In other words SL is not optimized like, say WoW.

Welcome to Second Life...........if you stick around and learn what it's about, you most likely grow to love it.

PS........you should have been around when I started. The servers would choke at 15K. :)
