one on one voice heard in chat

OK, so this has happened a couple of times in two different sims. Entering into a one on one call with someone... says connected, the white dot is gone from the two people's heads and yet folks in the sim can hear. Neither of the two people in the one on one voice can hear the folks on the main chat channel and you can't tell that folks can hear you unless they say so.

Any ideas of why this is?

You mostlikely have a problem with the DiamondWare, respectively the SLVoiceAgent.exe - I can't say which specific problem that is. Knowledge about that file, its structure and functionality is low, documentation is few.

If you are interested in learning more about the technical side of SLVoice at all and about the SLVoiceAgent.exe in particular, then I'd like to refer to SL Voice technical guide in SLwiki : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Voice/Technical

and to the ViVox SDK , which is the external software behind SL Voice (posted in a pdf document placed in JIRA) : http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/attachment/12026/Vivox-SLVoice-SDK-2007-09-20.pdf

If you are just interested in a solution for ya problem ;) (to what you are really entitled to), then I suggest you turn to the Voice Mentors group ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Voice_Mentors ). Maybe they can help.

And by typing this I have another idea. Maybe... if you are behind a firewall and you haven't allowed SL and/or SLVoice to randomly open ports, maybe the application tries to establish a P2P voice connection, fails, and returns to some faulty kind of general talk.. but that is only a guess.

I will definately check out the links and the voice mentors group. I also think you may have something with the firewall settings, though I'll have to find out if my friend who has had the same problem on occasion has a firewall at all. All good things to check out so thanks. Of course if I do fix the problem I'll never really be quite sure unless someone is nice enough to tell me they can hear me still!
