Will ATI cards with AGP accelleration on ever be fixed? Is it possible? Or is it something the developers of the hardware and driver need to fix? Running SL on my Radeon 9600 XT should not be giving me 10FPS, and I'm assuming it's because the program is rendering in software mode.
[Edit] 10FPS with all graphics options set down to their lowest, I might add.

My card isn't so bad and it doesn't perform much better than that in bad areas sometimes. Not sure exactly what the "acceleration" does, but if it's anything like making the card communicate at the speed of a non-AGP card (PCI ), then.....OMG make'm fix it!

They disabled AGP acceleration on all Macs, but mine was working just fine. We should at least have the option of using AGP, even if it is at our own risk.

I had many problems with my Radeon 9600XT at first. FPS was not really an issue, unless I pumped up the graphic settings. Apparently the best video card can't help you in complex areas, but I get decent FPS (~10) with above average graphic settings in moderately complex areas. I did have a major lock-up problem after 1.4. I found a thread where someone mentioned using the Omega video drivers instead of the ATI Catalyst drivers. At first, I was reluctant to use non-standard drives, but I had no choice -- and I'm glad I did! Not only did the complete system crashes vanish, but my overall performance increased by about 20% (based upon Futuremark's 3Dmark03 benchmarks)! Try it! http://www.omegadrivers.net/BTW, my AGP is still disabled with the Omega drivers, but not really sure if that would make an improvement or not.

They were probably getting alot of issues related to people having it on, is my guess. So disabling it might just save their tech support alot of work. Unless it's a HUGE performance hit (and I'm not so sure it is), I doubt you want to use this with ATI anyway.

Well I feel a lot better now.
ATi here too, AGP disabled. Oh well. At least I know it's not my chipset. Software mode? Things make a lot more sense now.
I sure hope this gets fixed in the future. :\

Yeah, I also had no reliability problems with my Radeon 9800 with the 'AGP memory transfers' (or whatever it's called) checkbox selected in the preferences. I think it may have been the solution to a problem I wasn't having...
